Der Europäische Gerichtshof (EuGH) mit Sitz in Luxemburg ist das oberste rechtsprechende Organ der Europäischen Union (EU). Nach Art. 19 Abs. 1 Satz 2 EUV sichert er „die Wahrung des Rechts bei der Auslegung und Anwendung der Verträge“. Zusammen mit dem Gericht der Europäischen Union bildet er den Gerichtshof der Europäischen Union, der im politischen System der Europäischen Union die Rolle der Judikative einnimmt.

Seine Aufgabe ist die Bekämpfung von Betrug, Korruption und allen anderen rechtswidrigen Handlungen, durch welche die finanziellen Interessen der Europäischen Union (EU) geschädigt werden.
