国家铁路客运公司(英语:National Railroad Passenger Corporation),商标和常用称呼Amtrak,中文简称美国国铁或美铁,是美国经营长途和城际铁路客运的营利性公司[2],创立于1971年5月1日。其商标“Amtrak”是由英文“美国”(America)和“铁轨”(track)组成的混成词[3]。总部位于华盛顿特区,紧邻联合车站。[4]
美铁依据《1970年美国铁路客运服务法案》(Rail Passenger Service Act of 1970)建立[5]。其所有的优先权股份都由美国联邦政府所有,并接受政府投资以维持公司运转。公司以营利模式运行,在美国法律属于准公共公司。董事会成员皆由总统提名经参议院同意而任命。部分普通股份由美国其他私营铁路公司在1971年美国国铁创立时,以经营铁路客运权力交换而来[6]。虽然美铁并不给予股息,有少数投资人向拥有原先股份的铁路公司购买美铁股份。2004年,部分普通股股份由美铁购回[7]。2011财政年度,美国国会共向美铁投资5.63亿美元补助铁路运营,并追加9.22亿美元用于资本流通。[8]美铁2010年票箱回报率(售票收入占运营成本的比率)为79%,为现有美国各客运铁路公司中最高。[9]
美铁有雇员超过20000人[10];全国总线路长34000公里,服务覆盖美国46州及加拿大三个省份,总共约500个车站[11]。
