《麦克白（Macbeth）》是英国剧作家莎士比亚创作的戏剧，创作于1606年。自19世纪起，同《哈姆雷特》、《奥赛罗》、《李尔王》被公认为是威廉·莎士比亚的“四大悲剧”。由朱塞佩·威尔第于1847年在佛罗伦萨完成谱曲，后又经过多次修订。

《麦克白》的故事，大体上是根据顾英格兰史学家拉斐尔·霍林献特的《苏格兰编年史》中的古老故事改编而成。《麦克白》讲述了利欲熏心的国王和王后对权力的贪婪，最后被推翻的过程。

《蝴蝶夫人》(Madama Butterfly)，是由意大利剧作家普契尼(Giacomo Puccini)创作之歌剧，也是普契尼创作的一部伟大的抒情悲剧。该剧由雷基·伊利卡及乔赛普·贾科萨撰写剧本，并根据隆恩的故事及伯勒斯科的戏剧作为蓝本。歌剧脚本由伊利卡和贾科萨根据美国约翰·朗的同名小说和贝拉斯的同名话剧编成。 《啊，明朗的一天》是这部作品中最著名的一首曲子。此剧于1904年2月17日在米兰拉·斯卡拉剧院首次演出。
