In vielen der 50 Bundesstaaten der USA gibt es Wintersportgebiete, von Maine bis nach Kalifornien. Vor allem drei große Gebirgszüge machen das Skifahren in den Vereinigten Staaten möglich: Zum einen sind dies die Rocky Mountains, die die sogenannten Mountain States durchqueren (Colorado, Nevada, Montana, Wyoming, Idaho und Utah). Die Cascades Range zieht sich von Kanada über Oregon bis hinunter nach Kalifornien. Im Osten der USA befinden sich zudem die Appalachen.

Der U.S. Highway 2 ist ein in West-Ost-Richtung verlaufender Highway durch den Norden der USA. Er teilt sich in einen längeren westlichen (3410 km) und einen kürzeren östlichen Abschnitt (740 km). Verbunden sind beide Abschnitte durch das Fernstraßensystem im Süden von Kanada. Beide Abschnitte zusammen haben eine Länge von 4150 km. Anders als die meisten anderen Highways, die inzwischen durch die Einrichtung von Interstate Highways unterbrochen wurden bzw. zu einem großen Teil heute auf diesen verlaufen, besteht die Streckenführung beider Teile des Highways 2 noch nach dem Originalplan von 1926.
Den westlichen Endpunkt bildet die Einmündung des Highways 2 in die Interstate 5 unweit der Pazifikküste in Everett nördlich von Seattle im Westen des Bundesstaates Washington. Das östliche Ende des Westabschnitts wird in St. Ignace in Michigan an der Einmündung in die Interstate 75 erreicht. Der westliche Endpunkt des Ostabschnittes befindet sich an der kanadischen Grenze bei Rouses Point im Bundesstaat New York. Das östliche Ende des Highways 2 bildet die Einmündung in die Interstate 95 bei Houlton im Osten des Bundesstaates Maine.

Der U.S. Highway 31 (kurz US 31) ist ein United States Highway in den Vereinigten Staaten. Er verläuft in Nord-Süd-Richtung durch die Bundesstaaten Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee und Alabama auf einer Strecke von etwa 2060 Kilometern.[1] Die Endpunkte liegen im Norden in Mackinaw City in Michigan und im Süden in Spanish Fort in Alabama.
31号美国国道（英语：U.S. Route 31或U.S. Highway 31、US 31）连接北密歇根和南阿拉巴马。其南端与90号及98号美国国道在阿拉巴马州西班牙堡交汇；北端和75号州际公路在密歇根州麦基诺城南部汇合。
以前31号美国国道能以汽车渡轮横跨麦基诺水道后于密歇根上半岛的圣伊尼亚斯连接2号美国国道，然后才沿着麦基诺大桥（属75号州际公路）南向到达麦基诺城。此国道以前亦能经穿过莫比尔湾的长桥进入莫比尔的市中心。

Der Mittlere Westen (englisch the Midwest) ist eine Region der Vereinigten Staaten. Der Name entstand im 19. Jahrhundert aus dem Bedürfnis, sich von der Ostküste abzugrenzen, daher „Westen“ – aber eben nicht so weit im Westen wie die damalige Frontier (Wilder Westen).
美国中西部（英语：Midwest）通常指的是美国地理上中北部的州，包括俄亥俄州、印第安纳州、密歇根州、伊利诺伊州、威斯康星州、艾奥瓦州、堪萨斯州、密苏里州、明尼苏达州、内布拉斯加州、北达科他州及南达科他州。美国地理中心（位于肯萨斯州）及人口中心（位于密苏里州）都位居中西部。美国人口调查局将这个区域再细分为中北部东方（基本上指的是五大湖地区）及中北部西方（基本上指的是大平原区）。

Die University of Michigan (auch Michigan, U of M, UMich oder U-M genannt) ist eine der renommiertesten Universitäten der Welt und die älteste Hochschule des US-Bundesstaates Michigan. Sie wurde 1817 in Detroit gegründet und zog 1841 nach Ann Arbor um.
