奥利维耶·欧仁·普罗斯珀·夏尔·梅西安（法语：Olivier Eugène Prosper Charles Messiaen，法语发音：[ɔlivje øʒɛn pʁɔspɛʁ ʃaʁl mɛsjɑ̃]；1908年12月10日—1992年4月27日），法国作曲家、管风琴演奏家、鸟类学家。作为20世纪主要作曲家之一，他也是杰出的作曲和音乐分析教师。
Olivier Eugène Prosper Charles Messiaen (Aussprache [mɛsjɑ̃]) (* 10. Dezember 1908 in Avignon; † 27. April 1992 in Clichy, Hauts-de-Seine) war ein französischer Komponist, Kompositionslehrer und Organist. Er beschäftigte sich außerdem mit der Ornithologie.

Once is a musical based on the 2007 film of the same name by John Carney. Like the film, music and lyrics were by Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová, including the Academy Award-winning "Falling Slowly". The book for the musical was written by Enda Walsh. The musical premiered at the New York Theatre Workshop in 2011, before transferring to Broadway in 2012. The production received eleven 2012 Tony Award nominations, and won eight including Best Musical, Best Actor and Best Book. The musical also won the 2012 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Musical and the 2013 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album. It has since spawned a London production, with a North American Tour which started on 1 October 2013.
In the musical, the cast also serves as the orchestra. A minimalist set is used, including a bar in center stage with chairs lining stage left and right. Exiting cast members simply step to the side of the stage and sit down. They serve as the orchestra from these chairs. The bar is used before the show and at intermission as a working bar for theater patrons.[1]

歌剧（意大利语：opera，opere为复数形）是一门西方舞台表演艺术，简单而言就是主要或完全以歌唱和音乐来交代和表达剧情的戏剧。[1] 歌剧在17世纪，即1600年前后才出现在意大利的佛罗伦斯，它源自古希腊戏剧的剧场音乐。歌剧的演出和戏剧的所需一样，都要凭借剧场的典型元素，如背景、戏服以及表演等。一般而言，较之其他戏剧不同的是，歌剧演出更看重歌唱和歌手的传统声乐技巧等音乐元素。歌手和合唱团常有一队乐器手负责伴奏，有的歌剧只需一队小乐队，有的则需要一团完整的管弦乐团。有些歌剧中都会穿插有舞蹈表演，如不少法语歌剧都有一场芭蕾舞表演。歌剧被视为西方古典音乐传统的一部分[2]，因此和经典音乐一样，流行程度不及当代流行音乐，而近代的音乐剧被视为歌剧的现代版本。
歌剧最早出现在17世纪的意大利，既而传播到欧洲各国，而德国的海因里希·许茨、法国的让-巴普蒂斯特·吕利和英格兰的亨利·珀塞尔分别在他们自己的国家，开创了17世纪歌剧的先河。一直到18世纪，意大利歌剧依然是欧洲的主流，纵然巴黎吸引了不少外国作曲家到法国谋生，而亨德尔最终落脚英伦。
而意大利歌剧的主流一直是正歌剧，直至格鲁克在1760年代推出的“革新歌剧”，以对抗正歌剧的矫揉造作。而今天依然著名的18世纪歌剧巨匠，显然是莫扎特。莫扎特少年时先以正歌剧起家，继而以意大利语喜歌剧，风行各地，尤以《费加罗的婚礼》、《唐·乔望尼》和《女人皆如此》为人称颂。而莫氏倒数第二部歌剧《魔笛》(最后一部为狄多王的仁慈)，更是德语歌剧的指标性作品。
19世纪初期是美声（bel canto）风格歌剧的高峰期，风行当时的罗西尼、多尼采蒂和贝利尼等人的歌剧，时至今日，依然常见于舞台。与此同时，贾科莫·梅耶贝尔的歌剧作品则成为了法式大歌剧（Grand Opera）的典范，并风行全法。
19世纪中后叶则被誉为歌剧的“黄金时期”，其中理查德·瓦格纳和朱塞佩·威尔第在德国和意大利各领风骚。而黄金时期过后的20世纪初，西欧歌剧继续演变出不同风格，如意大利的写实主义（verismo）和法国的当代歌剧，和及后贾科莫·普契尼和理查德·施特劳斯的作品。而在整个19世纪，在中东欧地区，尤其是俄罗斯和波希米亚，国民乐派的崛起造就了当地和西欧平行发展的歌剧作品。
整个20世纪，现代风格元素常被尝试混入歌剧当中，如阿诺德·勋伯格和阿尔班·贝尔格的无调性手法和十二音阶作曲法，以伊戈尔·斯特拉文斯基为代表的新古典主义音乐和菲利普·格拉斯和约翰·亚当斯的简约音乐。随著录音技术的改善，像恩里科·卡鲁索等歌手成为歌剧圈外人士所知的名字。随着20世纪科技的进步，歌剧也会在电台和电视上播放，也出现了为广播媒体而写的歌剧。
Als Oper (von italienisch opera in musica, „musikalisches Werk“) bezeichnet man seit 1639[1] eine um 1600 (mit Beginn des Barockzeitalters) entstandene musikalische Gattung des Theaters. Ferner werden auch das Opernhaus (die Aufführungsstätte oder produzierende Institution) oder die aufführende Kompagnie als Oper bezeichnet.
Eine Oper besteht aus der Vertonung einer dramatischen Dichtung, die von einem Sängerensemble, einem begleitenden Orchester sowie manchmal von einem Chor und einem Ballettensemble ausgeführt wird. Neben dem Gesang führen die Darsteller Schauspiel und Tanz auf einer Theaterbühne aus, die mit den Mitteln von Malerei, Architektur, Requisite, Beleuchtung und Bühnentechnik gestaltet ist. Die Rollen der Darsteller werden durch Maske und Kostüme optisch verdeutlicht. Als künstlerische Leitung betätigen sich Dirigenten für das Musikalische, Regisseure für die Personenführung sowie Bühnen– und Kostümbildner für die Ausstattung. Im Hintergrund unterstützt sie die Dramaturgie.
