Dessen im Original gleichnamige Hollywood-Verfilmung Meine Lieder – meine Träume (1965) wurde hinsichtlich der Zuschauerzahlen besonders in den Vereinigten Staaten immens erfolgreich.

Das slowakische Pendant „Horela lipka, horela“ (dt. „Die Linde brannte, sie brannte“) hat die gleiche Melodie. Das Lied wurde von tschechischen Einwanderern in die Vereinigten Staaten gebracht, wo der japanische Pastor und Kirchenmusiker Nakata Ugo es entdeckte und einen japanischen Text schrieb.
