Das slowakische Pendant „Horela lipka, horela“ (dt. „Die Linde brannte, sie brannte“) hat die gleiche Melodie. Das Lied wurde von tschechischen Einwanderern in die Vereinigten Staaten gebracht, wo der japanische Pastor und Kirchenmusiker Nakata Ugo es entdeckte und einen japanischen Text schrieb.

Er stammt von Evan James (1856), die Melodie von dessen Sohn James James. Juni 1981 in Stockholm), verheiratete Sara Stina Hülphers, war eine schwedische Schauspielerin und Sängerin. Sie wirkte als Filmschauspielerin überwiegend im nationalsozialistischen Deutschland. Nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg arbeitete sie verstärkt als Bühnensängerin und gab Konzerte in Schweden, Deutschland und Österreich.
